Tamales

If you came over for dinner at my house we will be having homemade tamales. It’s a tradition for my family every year to pick a day and make tamales. We try to make around 20 dozen tamales every year. We usually pick a day in December to make them. It is an all day messy process that takes the whole family to complete. The first thing we do is the day before we make the tamales we go to a little Mexican shop and buy the ‘masa’ (the grinded up corn)and the hojas (the husks that warp the tamales). The next day next we mix the masa with lard. Then we spread the masa over the hojas and we also add carne, olives, and chiles. Then we steam cook them and feast know that the hard day of work paid off in taste. We make so many tamales because all our friends love them. So we keep about 4 dozen to ourselves and the rest we give away. Having dinner with my family is would be fun because there is never a dual moment at our dinner table. The people that you would meet would be my mom, brother, grandparents, and my two cousins. My mom and grandma are sweet and they do most of the cooking and cleaning up. My grandpa and cousins always drench their food with tobasco, and once you get a whiff of the smell of tobasco it brings a tear to your eye. My brother and I are the ones that always have something to talk about at the table. My brother, cousins and I always give entertainment everywhere we go. This is my favorite meal because it is tradition and it’s a way to bring the family together. Also knowing that we homemade them makes them taste way better.
